RCL connects South China, Haiphong with Myanmar
05 Feb 2016

RCL is pleased to announce the link up of its pre-existing “RHF” service serving Singapore – Haiphong – Qingzhou – Hong Kong – Singapore today to Yangon. This will be a 4 x 1000 TEU service together with Yang Ming Lines with new rotation of Singapore – Pasir Gudang – Haiphong – Qingzhou – Hong Kong – Singapore – Yangon – Pasir Gudang – Singapore.

RCL will provide 3 of the 4 vessels in this rotation, with Yang Ming providing the last vessel. The service will henceforth be re-branded as the “RHY – RCL Haiphong Yangon service”.

The RHY will commence its maiden call to Yangon commencing ex Qingzhou and Hong Kong on the 6 and 9 March respectively. Ex Singapore, the maiden voyage will start on the 13 March 16. This service will call at Myanmar International Port (MIP) in Yangon.

According to Mr Sumate Tanthuwanit, President of RCL “This is the first service in the market connecting South China and Haiphong with Yangon. Myanmar's imports has grown by 20 to 30% year on year in the past 5 years and imports from South PRC has ranked amongst the largest as well. With political stability in Myanmar, Myanmar's growth potential will be even greater”.

Mr Sumate further added “Our customers have asked us to provide weekly direct service between South China and Yangon. We feel that this is now the right time to do so, since the trade continues to grow strongly. This service will complement the existing RTY service from Thailand via Singapore to Yangon and offer the best combinations of both direct connectivity and increased transhipment possibilities via Singapore to Yangon for both our COC and SOC customers alike”.
